Torrance Community Initiative

A Community-Owned Park

Torrance Community Initiative (TCI) was formed by a group of enterprising residents in 2002 and is a Scottish registered charity.  It owns Woodmill Park which is a 9.8 acre green field site at the end of Woodmill Drive.

The land is held for the benefit of the people of Torrance and is managed entirely by local volunteers.

All sections of the community use it.  Part of the woodland contains 'fairy trails' for the younger children to explore and there are picnic tables, wood carvings and benches to add enjoyment for others.  The open spaces are used for informal games/sport.  The park is also a favorite venue for dog walkers.

It is the home ground of Torrance Football Club, which draws in many spectators from surrounding areas on a saturday.  The path around the pitch is also used by wheelchair users, runners, cyclists and walkers.

We encourage biodiversity as much as we can and have installed several bird boxes in the woods, planted wildflowers and trees.  Planters have added extra colour to the picnic areas.

The park is the only one of its type in Torrance, the others being play parks for young children.  As such, the park is a precious and valued asset for the residents in the village.
